3 weeks to our elopement.
As we tried to figure out the complicated details of getting our marriage license in SC, we decided it would be easier to get officially married here in town and have our wedding in SC.
It was a Wednesday evening that Trevor had reached out to a friend of his who is a pastor here in town. He agreed to marrying us that coming weekend and we went for our counseling the next night.
My mom flew in from CO on that Friday evening to help me pick out a wedding dress.
First two appointments on Saturday and it was a bust.
No time to waste though!
That evening, we said our legal I do's in the cabin. It was pretty neat having both of our moms be the witnesses to our marriage and writing the cabin as our legal location!
My mom had to leave the next day to go back to CO. We stopped at one last shop to look for a dress. 3 dresses on, and bingo! I found the one! We both couldn't believe it. I found a dress that fit 3 weeks before our ceremony, off the rack, on the way to the airport.
You just can't make this up.
We ordered our wedding cake and my flowers based off reviews online. We planned to have a ceremony in a place we've never been (and only had 2 hours the day of to use it). We booked a room at a lodge for our "reception" dinner that we'd never seen. And we had family and friends flying/driving in to celebrate our impromptu elopement.
A wedding truly on the go.
I've always been a sucker for a good love story.
Our wedding story really has become one of my favorite stories to date.
Snippets to remember:
Picking a location we'd never been, from a picture I saved years ago!
Marriage ceremony at the cabin, in the snow, before it was finished, with our pastor/friend who agreed to marry us just two days prior.
The look of the bridal consultants when I told them I needed a dress in 3 weeks.
Finding a dress off the rack, 3 weeks before, on the way to dropping my mom off at the airport.
Staying on the same hotel floor as our friends and family in SC.
Top golf with the crew was SO FUN!
Separately going to dinner one night but ending up at the same restaurant and sitting right next to family!
The best Culver's lunch ever followed by a 20min shopping spree for a dress/shoes on the way to our "engagement" photo shoot.
The Saskatoon lodge: A dinner "rehearsal" that was chosen because it could hold 6+ people during COVID but ended up being a delicious dinner at an unofficial venue with a decorator and private room. It was beautiful. We were treated like royalty. They even decorated my cake! (all free of charge!)
Almost forgetting to pick up my flowers.
The Buttercream Bakehouse: The best cake we've all ever had. Strawberry and vanilla. It paired perfectly with the ice cream from the lodge.
The touching speeches from my Aunt Donna (Sandy's reading/voice over) and my mom that surprised us and really made the weekend memorable and special.
Euchre tournament in our hotel room.
Planning the ceremony and wedding songs in our hotel room 11pm the night before (what music should we play? Tim McGraw, Vince Gill, Kari Jobe and Michael Jackson!)
Writing our vows hours before/on the way to the ceremony.
Trevor's cousin Katie who came with us to do our wedding hair/makeup.
Sandy becoming our officiant, Shelby the videographer, grandma the keeper of the vows.
Gum on my shoe during the ceremony.
Playing the audio from our cabin wedding for our elopement ceremony for everyone to hear/re-live.
Looking out over the mountains, soaking in every moment as husband and wife, so incredibly blessed, with big news to share shortly after ;)
My close friends who drove down together after work and celebrated with us/having pizza with them in our wedding attire in downtown Greenville after.
All in all, planning our wedding in 3 weeks/on the go!
A weekend I'd like to re-live over and over. One that would be hard to believe came together how and when it did unless you were there. It was so much fun!
As I sit here, sleep deprived, with my sweet son who's napping in the next room -- I'm thankful for this story. I had no idea January 1, 2021 how this past year would pan out. It has been really hard yet really sweet, with twists and turns that have led to such great blessings!
To my soulmate.
Forged in the same fire.
I love you.
I can't wait for what's to come.
